GENRE: Sci Fi
When Earth intercepts a message from a long-extinct alien race, it seems like the solution the planet has been waiting for. The Undying’s advanced technology has the potential to undo environmental damage and turn lives around, and Gaia, their former home planet, is a treasure trove waiting to be uncovered.
For Jules Addison and his fellow scholars, the discovery of an alien culture offers unprecedented opportunity for study… as long as scavengers like Amelia Radcliffe don’t loot everything first. Mia and Jules’ different reasons for smuggling themselves onto Gaia put them immediately at odds, but after escaping a dangerous confrontation with other scavvers, they form a fragile alliance.
In order to penetrate the Undying temple and reach the tech and information hidden within, the two must decode the ancient race’s secrets and survive their traps. But the more they learn about the Undying, the more their presence in the temple seems to be part of a grand design that could spell the end of the human race…
Hi guys and welcome to a new post! today I’m trying out a bit of a different way in how I review books, so let me know what you think below.
This novel follows the two main characters, Mia & Jules ( the latter is POC ) as they both arrive on a planet that once was thought to be the saving grace to earth. They come to the planet for different reasons but get stuck together and do their best to survive through scavengers & the land itself trying to kill them.
1.The main characters, they were relatable and very three dimensional, making it easy to believe they were real people
2. The location, this was an amazing temple that reminded me of a mix of temple run & the underground temple from aliens vs predators and the descriptions of it made me crave to explore every nook & cranny.
3. How fast everything moves, this is a very visual novel that would make an amazing movie so it was super interesting to see it move so fast, there was really no time to stop as they were constantly on the move.
1.How introspective this novel was, when we switched characters, they were constantly lost in thought or taking time to think about what they were doing and why, instead of focusing on the task & while I understand it was to help get the background and morals of these characters through, it felt wrong.
2.The romance, don’t get me wrong, I loved the characters overall, but the romance seemed a little too heavy especially when so much was going down, i felt a little off about it because so much more was at stake than their budding relationship
3.I didn’t like how around the %50 mark, the book really slowed down & the plot almost stopped altogether ( it did pick back up !)
So, What did I think about this book ? It was a super fun ride and I was consatntly turning the page to find out what would happen next, whether our main characters would be safe, or if a trap or someone else would ruin everything they were trying to accomplish. This book has two POV, and is written by two different authors but I personally don’t feel like that took away from the novel nor did it distract me enough that I stopped reading or enjoying it. This is a novel for sci fi lovers, or people who just love action movies.
Thanks so much to Allen & Unwin for sending me a copy!
until next time,
