T5T ! BOOKS THAT LIVED UP TO THE HYPE

Hi guys and welcome to another post of top 5 Tuesday, a tag hosted by the lovely Shanah, over at thebionicbookworm.  Today, I’ll be talking about…

MARCH 13th – Top 5 books that lived up to the hype

  1. SHATTER ME – TAHEREH MAFI
This was the first dystopian that I fell in love with, from the beautiful character growth to the polar opposites in terms of characteristics, it was just so intriguing to read and personally, I wasn’t annoyed by Juliette’s journal entries.
  2. ILLUMINAE – AMIE KAUFMAN & JAY KRISTOFF
I’ve never been a fan of sci-fi really ( I say, as I have two sci-fi books on this list ) but when it’s done right, I fall in love. This was written beautifully. I thought I’d be confused by the way it’s told, through images, written down versions of voice logs & from the eyes of someone watching the event afterward, but it just made the book all that much better.
  3. AN EMBER IN THE ASHES – SABAA TAHIR
This was so much better than I expected, I went in looking for a classic YA fantasy novel that was going to be just average, and I came out with a story drenched in folklore & beautiful characters, it was just, so well done?
  4. SCYTHE – NEAL SHUSTERMAN
This was heartwrenching, intriguing & just so well written. it’s one of those books that you can’t put down & if you like dark books that have a lot to do with life, the role of humans & such while weaving an intricate story, then this is for you.
  5. THE MARTIAN – ANDY WEIR
This was just so damn funny? in a way it showed humanity in a place no one likes to see, desperate and alone, and Mark the main character handled it with grace, being funny and inventive, he really made the whole book & everytime I think of it I just get a massive wave of nostalgia

So, that’s another top 5 tuesday for you guys, have you read anything recently that has lived up to the hype? or maybe not lived up to it at all?

let me know in the comments below.

until next time,
Sarah

  1. An Ember In The Ashes was a perfect choice for this topic! Like You said, I fully expected just an average fantasy novel. But what I got was just SO much more than that! It was so complex, well written, and the characters were so interesting!
Thanks so much for participating! Added you to the list.
