Second novel in the brilliant series from the bestselling author of PRINCE OF In Mystic Class Nona Grey begins to learn the secrets of the universe. But so often even the deepest truths just make our choices harder. Before she leaves the Convent of Sweet Mercy Nona must choose her path and take the red of a Martial Sister, the grey of a Sister of Discretion, the blue of a Mystic Sister or the simple black of a Bride of the Ancestor and a life of prayer and service.
All that stands between her and these choices are the pride of a thwarted assassin, the ambition of a would-be empress wielding the Inquisition like a blade, and the vengeance of the empire’s richest lord.
As the world narrows around her, and her enemies attack her through the system she has sworn to, Nona must find her own path despite the competing pull of friendship, revenge, ambition, and loyalty.
And in all this only one thing is certain. There will be blood.
Grey sister was, as someone on goodreads said, a really good book on its own, but an obvious filler book.
Grey sister follows in the wake of red sister, following Nona Grey as she continues her journey in the Covenant of Sweet Mercy. Years have passed and Nona has grown with pain and time, but she is still the hot headed girl from the first book.
Like the first book, I think the strongest point of this was the characters. I loved them all and they were all very unique. From those who wanted to save their own hides, to those overtaken by something a little too dark to name, they all had demons to face. I liked that Nona, a warrior versed in blood, had to deal with the foe of a girl who played the court and courriers like a musician.
The lore of this series was a little heavy in this one, and I sometimes found myself glazing over bit of it because I wasn’t interested enough to read it thouruhhly, but it is an amazingly deep world with a lot of inatricies
Overall this was a very decent book, and while I did skim a little towards the end, because I do feel like this could have been maybe a tiny bit shorter, I still loved my time reading this book and overall totally recommend the series.
-the magic system is intriguing
Until next time,
