Today I want to talk about something a little fun. READATHONS.
Personally I can’t handle long term readathons, for me my max is 48 hours so this post is catered to my favourite kind of readathons, the 24 hour variety. Now let’s get into the tips
COOK SOMETHING HEALTHY FOR YOUR MEALS
And do it before hand! Trust me, energy drinks and chocolate sounds like a great idea for the first five or so hours, but you’ll crash from a sugar rush and ultimately burn out. So cook a decent meal for the time you’ll be reading, your stomach will thank you! And by cooking early, you have more free time to scroll on Instagram, READ.
SNACKS, SNACKS, SNACKS !
Of course, sticking to the food theme, get some snacks. Nothing is more annoying that realizing you’re kind of hungry but you’re in the middle of a good part of your book. Then you put it down to go get food… only to realize you have no snacks in your house! the horror! Buy or make some before and you’ll be good to go!
CLEAN UP BEFOREHAND
It seems unimportant, but you want to get rid of distractions, and for me, a messy room or house is a big distraction all on it’s own. If you clean up before your readathon starts, you’ll be all ready to read straight from the minute the clock starts to when it ends
Sleep is important. Sometimes it’s fun to stay up the full 24 hours and just read every minute, but to even consider that, you need plenty of rest. Make sure to get an early night before or if the readathon starts at midnight, consider having a nap first!
PICK WHERE YOU’RE GOING TO READ
check the weather, wash your sheets, put a cozy blanket on the couch! Wherever you’re going to read, make it prime real estate. Who wants to sit outside when it’s freezing? and curling up in bed with dirty sheets covered in crumbs? ew.
MAKE A TBR
personally mine goes
A manga/comic/graphic novel
an easy read (contemporary/crime for me)
a book under 400 pages
for a 24 hour readathon at least. But don’t be too harsh on yourself! If you change your mind after reading one of your books, then who cares about the TBR! sometimes it makes things easier and better, other times it makes things worse
SCHEDULE YOUR POSTS ETC
so you don’t waste time! If you have your posts sorted, you wont waste precious reading time by running to your computer to whip something up or give it a final check over
CAFFEINE …… or sleep
If you’re planning on staying up the whole time, make sure you have something to keep you awake. Most people find it hard to stay up a full 24 hours so get some coffee or energy drinks on hand! But if like me, you are married to your bed and sleeping, make sure you get some rest. Even six or seven hours of sleep is better than nothing!
THEN GO, GO, GO!
If you do these things before your readathon, when the timer starts, you wont have to do anything but sit down with your snacks, caffine, and book, and spend the next day reading to your hearts content.
