SIX ANTICIPATED RELEASES OF 2019
Are you well?
Normally, because my TBR is already SO huge, I don’t tend to keep an eye on what is coming up soon. But, some of these I will hopefully get from the publishers, and even if I don’t I’m excited enough about these books that I will go out and buy them on publishing day regardless.
So here is the six books I am currently the most excited about that are coming out before the end of the year.
1 THE BEAUTIFUL – RENEE AHDIEH
In 1872, New Orleans is a city ruled by the dead. But to seventeen-year-old Celine Rousseau, New Orleans provides her a refuge after she’s forced to flee her life as a dressmaker in Paris. Taken in by the sisters of the Ursuline convent along with six other girls, Celine quickly becomes enamored with the vibrant city from the music to the food to the soirées and—especially—to the danger. She soon becomes embroiled in the city’s glitzy underworld, known as La Cour des Lions, after catching the eye of the group’s leader, the enigmatic Sébastien Saint Germain. When the body of one of the girls from the convent is found in the lair of La Cour des Lions, Celine battles her attraction to him and suspicions about Sébastien’s guilt along with the shame of her own horrible secret.
When more bodies are discovered, each crime more gruesome than the last, Celine and New Orleans become gripped by the terror of a serial killer on the loose—one Celine is sure has set her in his sights . . . and who may even be the young man who has stolen her heart. As the murders continue to go unsolved, Celine takes matters into her own hands and soon uncovers something even more shocking: an age-old feud from the darkest creatures of the underworld reveals a truth about Celine she always suspected simmered just beneath the surface.
WHY AM I EXCITED FOR THIS? V A M P I R E S. I LOVE VAMPIRES. No for real, vampires, romance and a murder mystery in one? I am so so so so here for this.
2 QUEEN OF NOTHING – HOLLY BLACK
After being pronounced Queen of Faerie and then abruptly exiled by the Wicked King Cardan, Jude finds herself unmoored, the queen of nothing. She spends her time with Vivi and Oak, watches her fair share of reality television, and does the odd job or two, including trying to convince a cannibalistic faerie from hunting her own in the mortal world.
WHY AM I EXCITED FOR THIS? JUDE DUARTE DESERVES A CHANCE TO GO BACK TO THE FAERIE REALM AND SLAP CARDAN PLZ AND THX. THATS IT. THATS ALL.
3 STARSIGHT – BRANDON SANDERSON
All her life, Spensa has dreamed of becoming a pilot. Of proving she’s a hero like her father. She made it to the sky, but the truths she learned about her father were crushing. The rumors of his cowardice are true–he deserted his flight during battle against the Krell. Worse, though, he turned against his team and attacked them.
Spensa is sure there’s more to the story. And she’s sure that whatever happened to her father in his starship could happen to her. When she made it outside the protective shell of her planet, she heard the stars–and it was terrifying. Everything Spensa has been taught about her world is a lie.
But Spensa also discovered a few other things about herself–and she’ll travel to the end of the galaxy to save humankind if she needs to.
WHY AM I EXCITED FOR THIS? So, as I type this I am not letting myself look at the blurb because I want this book to be a surprise for me. Skyward WRECKED ME and I am so so ready to see Spensa again.
4 THE STARLESS SEA – ERIN MORGENSTERN
Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a mysterious book hidden in the stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood. Bewildered by this inexplicable book and desperate to make sense of how his own life came to be recorded, Zachary uncovers a series of clues–a bee, a key, and a sword–that lead him to a masquerade party in New York, to a secret club, and through a doorway to an ancient library, hidden far below the surface of the earth. What Zachary finds in this curious place is more than just a buried home for books and their guardians–it is a place of lost cities and seas, lovers who pass notes under doors and across time, and of stories whispered by the dead. Zachary learns of those who have sacrificed much to protect this realm, relinquishing their sight and their tongues to preserve this archive, and also those who are intent on its destruction. Together with Mirabel, a fierce, pink-haired protector of the place, and Dorian, a handsome, barefoot man with shifting alliances, Zachary travels the twisting tunnels, darkened stairwells, crowded ballrooms, and sweetly-soaked shores of this magical world, discovering his purpose–in both the mysterious book and in his own life.
WHY AM I EXCITED FOR THIS? This is the one I know the least about, but for some reason, am HIGHLY anticipating. I think the idea of a secret club, masquerade party and magical worlds, just has this aesthetic or aura to it that has drawn me right in.
5 BLOOD HEIR – AMELIE ZHAO
Princess Anastacya Mikhailov of Cyrilia has lived her life in safety, hidden behind palace walls. But when she is framed for her father’s brutal murder, she must leave behind everything she has ever known to find his killer and prove her innocence. And there is only one person corrupt enough to help her – Ramson Quicktongue. A cunning, silver-tongued crime lord of the Cyrilian underworld, Ramson has his own sinister plans – though he might have met his match in Ana. Because in this story, the princess might be the most dangerous player of them all.
WHY AM I EXCITED FOR THIS? A princess and a corrupt crime lord ???? w o w. I’m instantly hooked by this intro AND the fact that the author is a really lovely person who went and pushed back her release date to fix her book and make it less harmful!
6 THE TOLL – NEAL SHUSTERMAN.
WHY AM I EXCITED FOR THIS? both Scythe and Thunderhead were phenomenal books with great character development and a unique world so I just need to know how it ends!
Are any of these high up on your list? I bet Queen of nothing is on most peoples!
