MID MONTH CHECK-IN
October is nearly over and the spooky season is coming to a close. So let’s talk about how I’ve been going this month.
First off, the TBR Jar? It’s been going HORRIBLY.
I have finished two books for this,
ELEVATOR PITCH for A NEW TO ME AUTHOR.
DEATHNOTE for A MANGA OR GRAPHIC NOVEL.
As of writing this on the 15th, I have only finished those two books. For the first 10 days or so, I was in the worst reading slump and just couldn’t bring myself to pick up a book, let alone finish one. But I’ve gotten out of that now and I’m back to reading 50-200 pages a day which is really good!
I finished ELEVATOR PITCH this morning, and I have high hopes to read the last 120ish pages of the STARLESS SEA this evening after dinner. But we’ll see how well that goes and if I do. Even if I don’t, I’ll end up finishing it tomorrow morning so there will be no big loss.
Anyways, onto my thoughts on these books
BOOKS I’VE FINISHED
DEATHNOTE BLACK EDITION #5
I found myself really not enjoying the first half of this, and it didn’t really pick up or save itself until the last quarter. For most of this story I really just wanted the light to get caught and bloody well stop being so annoying. The last 100 pages redeemed it a lot though.
This was a weak thriller that had strong characters who made up for the lack of a scare factor. I liked the characters and the writing was breezy. But the lack of a good scare and the nonchalance that I read this with, the lack of real fear, made it quite a forgettable experience.
WHAT AM I CURRENTLY READING.
THE STARLESS SEA
This has stolen my heart in the best way and I don’t think I will ever go back from saying that Erin Morgenstern sold her soul to the fae gods to make this story. I am adoring every single aspect of it and I want to see it to the end but I also never want it to end.
SO. I don’t have a good record this month, and I don’t know how well I am going to go at trying to get through the rest of the books I put on my TBR. I’ve filled out my READING JOURNAL with a plan to make it possible, but I don’t want to push it and get myself into another reading slump so this might be only a 5 book month, which there is nothing wrong with! Even reading a single book a month is better than none.
