OCTOBER WRAP UP
October heralded one of the worst reading slumps I have ever been in. Like, ever. Can I reiterate that enough? It chased me from the first, right through to the end of the month and only now am I slowly dragging myself out of it’s clutches. But even with a really bad reading slump, I DID manage to read some amazing books. So let’s talk about them
DEATHNOTE – BLACK EDITION 5
This was a very middle of the road manga for me. The first half, which is a volume in its own, was really lacking because I just hated the character development and the story dragged, but the next volume really picked up and showed off how good this story can be.
ELEVATOR PITCH – LINWOOD BARCLAY
TBR JAR: A NEW TO ME AUTHOR
Y’know, the longer I think about this novel, the more I forget about it. It had good characters but it was really lacking in it’s ability to scare you, or keep you guessing. It was just very, eh.
THE STARLESS SEA – ERIN MORGERNSTERN
REVIEW BOOK FOR PENGUIN NZ
Hi, meet my favourite book of the year so far. This was full of magic, beautiful prose, wonderful characters, a m/m relationship and fables. There is not a single thing I don’t love about this novel, and I am so excited to read the night circus soon-ish.
PUMPKINHEADS – RAINBOW ROWELL
I picked this up the evening of THE STARLESS SEA, just as something light to help get me over the emotional turmoil of the last book I finished. This didn’t have much plot-wise, but it was fun, cute, and beautifully illustrated.
THE TOLL – NEAL SHUSTERMAN
REVIEW BOOK FOR HARPERNZ
This was a great conclusion to what is a trilogy I loved. This book took it from being about two characters to being about the whole world they lived on. I really loved that expansion and honestly had alot of fun with this.
WARM UP – V.E SCHWAB
Technically this is the first V.E SCHWAB story I’ve ever finished and I was less than impressed. I didn’t understand what was going on or why we’re focusing on this character. BUT, I did get to know a little about the powers some people get after death? I think once I read VICIOUS, I’ll understand this alot more.
MY TOP 3 BOOKS WERE:
- THE STARLESS SEA
I mean, who is surprised
- THE TOLL
I had to stop myself crying at the end
It was so damn cute!
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS MONTHS READING:
So obviously this reading slump really messed things up. It meant that it was nearly impossible to stick to my assigned TBR, even if I was really excited about these books at the start of the month. By the 20th I had just chosen to disband my TBR and let myself read whatever which really helped. Overall this month could have been worse because well, I did finish 6 books.
