My Top 5 Manga series.

BLOG POST PSD (1) (1).png

Hello bookworms.

Today, I’d like to talk about something that is not novels. Often in the book blogging world, we forget about things that are not the traditional book format. And sometimes, we even become so biased that we say we would never pick such things up. Think Comics, Graphic Novels, Manga, Audiobooks, Mixed Media stories and more.

There are just so many options and we often forget about them. So I thought I’d put a spotlight on one format of stories I love to read. Manga. I started my first Manga in 2017, when I read the first edition of DEATHNOTE. I really enjoyed my time with it, and in the end, slowly continued on with the story. But it wasn’t until I met a very close friend of mine, Kimmie, that I got into Manga, even more, the picture used for today’s post is actually one I took as we sat in Copenhagen and I read the first volume of Attack On Titan at her recommendation. Then I went and brought the next three volumes. And now, I have a section of my bookshelves for manga, graphic novels & comics. I love it a lot, and so here I’ll share my top 5 mangas that I have read over the past few years.

So this list is not in any form of order, because it would be so hard to pick. But let’s talk about this one first because it’s very well known. But if you don’t know, this is a story where the world’s population has been forced to hide behind a wall from towering giants, known as titans. I don’t just love it for its dystopian elements, but also its character development, world-building and backstory. This is the kind of story that really intrigues you because it affects the whole world and you get to see the consequences of peoples choices play out.

This is a heartwarming story that I adore. It’s also number two on this list that Kimmie recommended me so you can all thank her for this post. IHTSS is a cute coming of age story where two characters lives crash together. I think my favourite part of this manga is the fact that it has wonderful Hard of hearing and hearing loss rep, as one of the main characters is losing his hearing at a young age. Definitely pick this up if you want something cute,

Oh man, this was the first manga I really fell head over heels for. This is a story set in the 90’s where a young guy, running the streets for a gang leader meets a photographers assistant and they get in a lot of trouble. It’s full of action and character development, but the characters are definitely my favourite part of this story because they’re all so unique.  I think this is a good pick if you’re looking for something action-packed but character-driven.

I have only started reading this a few weeks ago, and I will admit it’s the one I have read the least of, but it’s earned its place on here. This is your typical Shojo manga, focused on the romance and characters that make up this story, but it is super sweet while still dealing with heavy topics like Guilt, trauma and suicide. I absolutely adore this in the same way I adore a good contemporary novel, it’s light and comforting enough to make you feel good and keep you distracted from the real world.

The classic, of course this is on my list because it earned it’s way here. For anyone who doesn’t know, Deathnote is a manga about a boy who gains the ability to kill anyone in the world by writing down their name, and starts a quest to rid the world of evil. I think my favourite part of this manga is the way it plays with morality, and good vs. evil because there is no truly good or truly evil characters in this story. I also love the fact there are shinigami in this story, which are creatures from Japanese mythology and religion.

So that’s it. I’ve listed my top 5 and why they are my top 5. Maybe you should give one a go, if you do, or if you love one of these series, let me know down below!

  1. I love I Hear the Sunspot so much!!! It’s so cute but also it talks about many important topics. I haven’t read Given but your description reminds me of Yagate Kimi ni Naru so maybe you’ll like this one as well 🙂
