WHAT BOOKS HAVE BEEN ON MY TBR THE LONGEST?

MY TBR VETERANS

BLOG POST PSD (1) (1) (1) (4)

Hello bookworms,
are you well?

Today’s post is a bit of a fun one for me at least. I went through the dregs of my blog, back to when I first started it in early 2017, and I found the oldest books that were still sitting on my TBR.

New Project (5) (4)

One thing I wanted to mention in relation to this, is if you’re ever feeling down about your blog, look back to where you started, because trust me, even if you can’t see it, you have evolved as a writer and creator. (Because, YES, you are both a writer and creator, wear those titles with PRIDE friends)

ANYWAYS, we’re all here to shame me for having not read these books, so let’s get started huh?

Please DO tell me if any of these are favourites of yours! Motivate me to get to them ASAP

So, We’re going in order of oldest appearance to most recent, HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean that any of these are new. Every single book is from 2017…. that means EVERY SINGLE BOOK IS TWO YEARS OLD !!!! These books would be babies! walking, bumbling, learning to talk, BABIES. Yikes.

WEAVING FICTIONS EXCITEMENT SCALE:

this is how I’ll tell you how excited I am to get to this book.

1 – I’m going to unhaul it
2 – I would consider unhauling
3 – I vaguely have an interest
4 – mildly interested
5 – okay, yeah, I want to read this sometime in the next year
6 – There’s something exciting about this one
7 – I need to read this in the next 6 months
8 – give me the damn book
9 – I am reading this right now
10 – I will cry if I can’t have this right now

AND I DARKEN.

I have to admit, this is one of my least favourite covers, and perhaps the reason I haven’t picked it up is because of that? Hmmmm, that’s food for thought. Honestly, I vaguely know what this is about, but for some reason, I’m no longer extremely excited for it, but I don’t want to get rid of it either.

THE WRATH AND THE DAWN

I was gifted this and when it arrived I was SO excited. I’ve actually started this novel TWO times, and both times I’ve put it back down. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten over 100 pages in this novel, but it’s always piqued my interest enough that I want to get to it one day…….. eventually.

HEARTLESS

Oof. Y’know what……. this is one I’ve been avoiding reading. I don’t remember how I came about owning this book, but for some reason, I have absolutely no interest in reading this one! I adore Alice in Wonderland related things but this no longer piques my interest. Normally I’m pretty harsh with my unhauling too, but even though I don’t have a real will to read this, I can’t bring myself to unhaul it either.

THE SCORPIO RACES

For me, there is something about Maggie Stiefvater’s writing (and I say this having only read THE RAVEN BOYS) I find it intoxicating and alluring, BUT I always need to take my time with it, and while I always want to pick up her books, for me, I always want it to be the “right” time to do so. Honestly, that’s the only reason I’ve been procrastinating this one. Like it’s a standalone novel, that’s PERFECT for me? But nooooooo I need the “right” time.

THE NAME OF THE WIND

2495561

This is one of the books on this list that truly surprised me. I didn’t realise just how long I had owned this book. I brought it and the sequel second hand and apparently just, let it collect dust? I read the first chapter for a try a chapter challenge, and I vaguely remember enjoying it, but it is also a heavy book that I feel like I would want to sit and tab up (just like Stiefvater’s books) and I on;y read one of those books a month, sometimes not even that often as I find they take so much more from me. So… I truly want to get to this, but not any time soon.

PRINCE OF FOOLS

22448248

For some reason, I have always felt like I need to read the PRINCE OF THORNS series before this one. Though I’m sure I don’t actually have to. I brought this when I was looking at going to uni down south (hahahahahahahahahahhahaahahhahaahahha yeah that didn’t happen) and I carted it back home with me. It’s been very patiently waiting for me ever since. If I didn’t have more exciting books on my TBR, or I had read the prince of thorns series (of which I’ve read the first and own the second) Then I would probably pick this up right now, because Mark Lawrence is a fantasy writing god.

WOLF HALL

In my first real job, my boss was an avid reader. Honestly? It was AMAZING. She read old school fantasy books and was such a lovely lady. She had recommended this before and once I saw it at our annual book fair (which fun fact, I’ve seen her at every year, and every year I have had my nose stuck in a book, and shes had to yell to get my attention), I KNEW I had to have it. However, I haven’t had a real craving for a historical book.

PROMISE OF FIRE

27015399._SY475_

I brought this and the sequel from bookdepository because they were CRAZY cheap. I think I had recently finished one of my first New Adult fantasies and I wanted something like them on my TBR. Fast forward to now and I still haven’t read them, oops? I’ve picked up the first one once or possibly twice and haven’t gotten very far in before putting it down. maybe its me, or maybe it’s the book?

THE LONG WAY TO A SMALL ANGRY PLANET

28412145._SY475_

Sci fi is a big love of mine. But I have to admit, there is no in between when I read these books. I either hate or love them. I’ve tried this once and it felt a little juvenile at the start but I also know this book is in a lot of peoples favourites list. So I’m conflicted on whether this is going to be the book for me. I want it to be because as far as I know, there’s space missions and a ragtag group of kids which is TOTALLY my thing.

NIGHT FILM

18770398.jpg

I love thrillers, and I love mixed media format books. So why haven’t I gotten to this? Honestly, I have no clue. I know this is a sort of cult classic for thriller lovers, and everything about it interests me but it’s size daunts me and in all honesty, I have such a big pile of thriller books that the larger ones keep getting put to the backburner. I know I will get to this at some point, but I can also see that being when it’s one of the last books on my TBR.

THE OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE

18744618

I have never read a Neil Gaiman book, and in all honesty, I don’t think this one will be the one for me. I genuinely can’t remember why I picked this one to buy, because every time I look at it, I just have zero interest in reading it. I’ve nearly unhauled it a few times and I think it might be on its last legs with me. I might be better off finding a different home for it because everything about this just, doesn’t interest me anymore sadly.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

2657

Hi, my name is Sarah and I like to pretend that I enjoy classics when the only classics I have enjoyed are Emily Bronte and Jane Austen. Sigh. I WANT to read and love this novel. To be moved and taught by it. But it just has not piqued my interest, nor has it felt like the right time to read it. If I was to pick up a classic, it would be a different once than this which is kind of sad. But I can see myself getting to this one day… at some point in the distant future.

MANSFIELD PARK

15990657._SY475_

Aaaaaaaaaand, here is another classic. Fun fact, the last paper I did in high school was originally going to be an analysis of Jane Austens writings and the worlds she created. However, that was apparently too narrow and luckily I got to meet Emily and Charlotte Bronte. I never really feel like reading classics at the moment, but if I was to read one. It would be this one honestly.

SCARLET

13206760._SY475_

I genuinely can’t believe how long it’s been since I read CINDER. Apparently it’s been two bloody years. I enjoyed Cinder and the characters introduced to us there, but I didn’t immediately fall in love with Scarlet or the love interest. I think because I didn’t get to go back to the characters I loved, I wasn’t as interested in the world, BUT I do really want to finish this series off one day. Preferably before I get gray hairs.

The final book on this list, and the last book (I THINK) I purchased in 2017 and haven’t read is

THE SECRET HISTORY

70897

I know. I proclaim that DARK ACADEMIA is my favourite genre. Yet I haven’t read the cult classic? It’s honestly only for one reason. Every time I start it, I love it so much that I don’t want it to end, but I simultaneously want to know everything. Add that to the factor that this is another “Right time” book that I need to spend hours devouring and tabbing and note-taking on, and I kind of get why I haven’t gotten past the 100-page mark of this. I can tell you, the first 100 pages of this book is littered with post it flags, it’s ridiculous.

WHAT HAS MAKING THIS POST TAUGHT ME?

Honestly? That I need to get to the books I read faster, because as they sit on my TBR for longer and longer, I genuinely loose interest to the point I want to unhaul the books. I think it’s a case of, there are new shiny books being thrown in my face constantly, and these aren’t going anywhere so I often forget about them, or just burn out on the idea of reading them. So, this post has reminded me that I should REALLY aim to get my TBR down to like, 50 books max.

New Project (5) (4)

DO I THINK I WILL READ ANY OF THESE BOOKS IN 2020?

In all honesty? Off the top of my head. I think I will get to THE SCORPIO RACES, THE SECRET HISTORY AND SCARLET for sure. The others? Who knows.

Thank you for staying with me throughout his BEHEMOTH of a post, I think it might be the longest I’ve ever written.

If you think I should read any of these, or get rid of them, please tell me down below!
